However, I now get over 150 spam emails a day. That's just too many to handle. And unfortunately, my automatic filters like to claim that mail from my family and friends is spam. So I have to double check all those messages to make sure I'm not actually ignoring my mom instead of the spam. Since I haven't setup your email address on my approved list yet (sorry!), you need to let me know you're not an evil spammer. > > Please don't change the subject line when you reply. But tbh, I hate Daniel more than I hate his software.

I have taken to active countermeasures now: a) I DO NOT respond to the challenge when the mail is legit. b) I ALWAYS respond to the challenge when the mail is spam. I figure that these people are asking me to send a spam mail straight to their inbox and providing me with all the tools to do it, so who am I to refuse? And what's a little whitelist pollution between friends, y'know? I'll gladly help out a pal. Regards,

This was my first reaction too, but then I wondered if I was confusing my hatred for the software with hatred for people who don't know how to use their software, broken as it proabably is. --=20 /\oo/\ / /()\ \ David Mackintosh |=20 dave@xxxxxx.xxx | http://www.xdroop.com --dxRQSzdsN/lOP445 Content-Type: application/pgp-signature Content-Disposition: inline -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.6 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFGEoAecwUBd0wDJQQRAvvyAJ9r0eCcvis5f7cfbFitx7AIm/kchwCeIpJ8 YUnIYE4o8BaU4IIEdQd8VQg= =9ka/ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --dxRQSzdsN/lOP445--

Such software should *never* under *any circumstances* send a challenge to something to contains a List-Id. If it does contain a List-Id, then it is either a mailing list that the user signed up to and which consequently shouldn't be challenged, or it is something pretending to be a legitimate mailing list (ie, spam) and so there's no point challenging it as you'll never get a truthful "yes it was me and it's not spam" response.

Or its a bounce-forward, in which case the sender will hopefully be already whitelisted. Eg, friend bounces on interesting posts occasionally, acting as a S/N filter. -Phil, fighting over-generalisations

Well, not trying to defend Daniel here, but I have a filter rule that any email with a "List-Id:" header gets stuffed into a mailing list folder. I was rather surprised to find spam in there, and upon further investigation, it appears that some spammers *are* using mailing list software to send their nefarious messages. -spc (Constantly amazed at the amount of money that goes unclaimed in Nigeria ... )
